Go Where Your Soul Takes You: The Path to Radiant Living
Your mind only knows some things. Your inner voice, your instinct, knows everything. If you listen to what you know instinctively, it will always lead you down the right path. ~~ Henry Winkler
When was the last time you had a gut feeling about something? Have you slowed down recently to hear your inner voice? What do you listen to more: your head, your heart, or your gut?
As children, we are taught to “think” our way through life—to use our heads to make decisions. Then we learn to “follow our hearts” as we fall in love. But most people admit that both of these information centers often lead us astray. The reason? Because both of these sources are highly influenced by others, whether it be friends, family, or the society at large.
Our gut reactions tend to be right on the mark with what aligns us in finding joy and peace. However, rarely do we learn to listen to, not to mention heed the call of our gut reactions—our inner ally. Most of us can recall a time when we experienced regret from not listening to what our gut was telling us. What would happen if we learned to live through our souls every second of the day, knowing that this divine navigation system would always lead us down the path to optimal soul health?
Our soul is the essence of who we are. It is the hub of our collective wisdom. But without tuning into this vital aspect of our human experience, we can very easily become misaligned, unhappy, and unhealthy. Optimal soul health requires us to become and remain connected with our deepest self. As a holistic psychologist, my mission is to assist others in learning to listen to their inner voice so that they can both let go of wounds from the past and learn to love themselves enough to follow where that voice wants to take them in the future. Self-love, then, promotes alignment, which, in turn, creates the foundation for a much more radiant life.
How did I learn this? Well, first, I’m not exempt from the human condition. I’ve experienced several periods of misalignment in my own life, many of which resulted from ignoring my own gut reactions. Others resulted from life events that were out of my control, but created discord, nonetheless. In each of these cases, I had to reflect on what was and was not working, then realign my life with respect to what I was supposed to learn about myself related to the event.
Just as a thermostat constantly monitors the temperature within a house, we must remain aware of what will and will not align our lives for optimal living. Conscious evolution—the continual observation of the voice of our soul—requires us to commit to 1) tuning in, 2) listening to, 3) trusting the message, and 4) acting on our gut reactions. If we followed these four steps, many challenges within the human condition would be eliminated: emotional eating, overworking ourselves, unhealthy behaviors, faulty decisions, general lack of self-care, financial issues, relationship choices, and more. In essence, if we lived through the soul and followed these steps, soul health would be yours—guaranteed!
Are you ignoring the voice of your soul? Is your gut trying to tell you something to better align your life—even if you don’t want to hear it? What do you do to muffle the voice of your soul? Do you eat too much, spend too much, watch t.v. too much, “busy” yourself too much, spend too much time on Facebook or other social media? What would be different if you simply followed the steps listed above?
For a personal example of how to listen in order to lead a more radiant life, watch the following video. I had my own experience not so long ago that confirmed that when we stop to listen to what our soul needs, everything else aligns—emotional, physical, and more. I based my Soul Health Model on this concept and it continues to prove itself every single day.
