The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.
~ Caroline Myss

We’ve all heard that time heals. As of yet, we don’t even fully know which parts of the human condition need healing from the pandemic and ongoing tragic events like George Floyd’s death in Minnesota. Like you, some days I wonder if the world can really heal from all of this. But the soul, it always knows what to do to heal itself. We just need to listen.

Never before have we been charged with the task of going within like we have the last few months. We have also never been faced with such a separated world, one that is increasingly divided by the offenses caused by those who are supposed to guide and protect us. Fear surrounds us, but new growth is still ahead. Uncertainty continues, but evolution is always guaranteed. All of the current events we are experiencing are part of an unfolding consciousness—a new awareness that requires us to let go of old ways and embrace the new ones just ahead. Our willingness to enter a sacred surrender solidifies both our faith that everything happens for the sake of evolution and that somehow everything will eventually be ok.

Khalil Gibran stated that “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls.” Our discomfort provides an opportunity to grow—to evolve. Our souls become seasoned with our experiences, building stronger and stronger roots to our tree of life. With these deep roots comes a strengthened foundation that can withstand even more challenging storms that may riddle our human condition. We don’t realize we are becoming stronger and changed until we look back to acknowledge what we have overcome—and who we have become. It is in this reflection that we honor what we heal within ourselves and between the billions of souls on this planet. We are all in this together, experiencing the various events that could place us on our path to Oneness. It is time to realize that nothing separates us but our willingness to do so.

This is a time to heal, even if it seems like it is happening just one soul at a time. It is true that any team is only as strong as its weakest player and given the current state of the world, this statement could not be truer. We all need to heal in one way or another—we all have wounds. If nothing else connects each soul on the planet, the fact that we all suffer from many of the same challenges of the human condition is the commonality that binds us. The question is, will we all do our work to become more conscious and evolved beings so we can join together once again?

Perhaps the reason we are being asked to shut ourselves away as well as witness the events that divide us is to heal the soul of the world. Each and every one of us is now given the opportunity to go within, become more aware of who we are, identify what we want to change and then take action to both leave the past behind and move into a new future. It is an opportunity for us to become aware of how we participate in an unconscious and unloving world so we can do our part to become “one” instead. Will you take that opportunity? Who will you become? Why do you resist? Will we allow the heaviness of current times to destroy us and our soul mission? Or will we forge earnestly ahead regardless (F.E.A.R.) of the obstacles we perceive to be in the way?

Somewhere long ago, I read a quote that said great nations don’t fall at the hands of others, they fall at the hands of their own. While there is power in numbers, it takes each and every soul’s healing and subsequent evolution to create our highest good as a whole. With this in mind, we not only have the right, but we also have the duty to become the best we can be. Together, we can return to Oneness– but only if everyone chooses to evolve.

Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, “Healing comes when we choose to walk away from darkness and move towards a brighter light.” The light we must walk toward is our own. We must reach deep within and realize that each of us is the light of the new dawn. We must realize that participating in the old and outgrown ways only reinforces the dark. But by choosing to step into a new and conscious light, we will reunite. Then, and only then, can we heal the world… one soul at a time.

Below is a tool for you to listen to your soul. It is an exercise in listening to your deepest truth—a nudge to slow down, look within, and listen to what your soul is trying to tell you.

  1. Seat yourself or lay comfortably in a quiet place with your eyes closed. Uncross your hands and feet and allow your body to become loose and relaxed.
  2. Take a few long and deep breaths, releasing any stress or unwanted thoughts as you exhale. Do this several times until you feel yourself completely relax into your newly quieted mind.
  3. Now, notice where your eyes would be looking if they were open. Keeping your eyes closed, draw your eyes down as if you were looking at the floor. Notice your mind quiet even more.
  4. Next, keep your eyes closed and draw your eyes down as if you were looking at your lap. Notice your mind becoming even quieter.

Again, keep your eyes closed and draw your eyes even further downward, this time as if you were looking at your belly button. Although this may feel a little uncomfortable, keep your eyes closed and ask yourself questions like the following, simply listening for a response from deep within:

What am I supposed to be learning from this time to go within?
Is there something I can change to lead a better life?
What do I need to heal about myself or my past in order to be more joyful and happy? What occupies my mind? How can I fix this or change something to lessen these thoughts? How can I participate in raising my awareness and that of those around me? What is my first step? And am I resisting moving ahead? If so, how can I unblock my path? What do I need to do today be lead a healthier and happier life?

The questions will vary from soul to soul, but the method of learning to listen is the same. Practice this tool whenever you need to hear yourself more clearly, boost clarity, make a decision, or simply quiet your mind. The words you hear are provided by your inner ally—your soul. Learn to listen and honor these words as they guide you to heal your soul, both for your sake and the collective soul of the world.

Are you ready and willing to shine your light?
